The Ravenna Ravens dropped their season opener in heartbreaking fashion to the visiting Newton Falls Tigers 61-53. The host Ravens played a great first half and went to the locker room up 29-23, but a hot second half by the Tigers, coupled with a cold second half by the Ravens, plagued by cold shooting and turnovers propelled Tigers past the Ravens. Newton Falls’ Preston Rapczak led all scorers with 19 points. Gage Friend had a double-double for the Tigers with 17 points and 12 rebounds. Ethan Alexander led the Ravens with 16 points. The Ravens’ Joey Bogo and the Tigers’ Adam Honeycutt each drained 4 3-pointers, with Honeycutt finishing the night with 14 points while Bogo finished with 12 points. Amil Jenkins just missed out on the double-double, scoring nine points and grabbing 10 boards. The Ravens will travel to Peninsula next Friday December 6th for their next game and open Portage Trail Conference Metro Division Play with the Woodridge Bulldogs.
